UCP Pittsburgh moved towards the use of the state of the art Smart home technology when building their new home for three of their residents in the summer of 2007. Located on Maryland Avenue in North Versailles Township, the house is new construction that is designed to be accessible and technology friendly to the residents and staff of the home.
The Maryland Avenue house was designed as a three bedroom ranch with an accessible open concept. It has large hallways/doorways and accessible bathrooms with wheel in showers. The home meets and/or exceeds ADA standards. In addition to its accessibility, the biggest feature is the home automation system. This combination of hardware and software enables the home to be more convenient, efficient, entertaining, and secure. Appliances, lighting, security systems, ventilation, as well as a myriad of other devices can be controlled through the use of home automation technologies. These technologies will help us run an efficient home and more importantly a safer more comfortable home for the three ladies that are living in the house. An open house featuring the new home was held in September 2007.
