Director of Public Policy and Community Relations

Lucy Spruill

 Lucy Spruill has been employed at United Cerebral Palsy of Pittsburgh for eleven years as Director of the CLASS Attendant Care Program and, more recently, as the Director of Public Policy and Community Relations. She previously served on the Board of Directors for eight years and during that time was Chair of the former Governmental Activities Committee. Lucy also served as the first ADA Coordinator for the City of Pittsburgh and has held several positions in community maternal and child health programs. In her current position, she is responsible for strengthening relationships and collaborations between UCP/CLASS and other community agencies and programs, assuring that the priorities and values of UCP/CLASS are included in public policy initiatives at all levels, and coordinating advocacy efforts to assure that the needs of people with disabilities in our communities are adequately addressed.

Lucy’s current community activities include membership in the National Association of Social Workers, the Port Authority of Allegheny County Committee for Accessible Transportation and the UPMC Disabilities Resource Center Advisory Council. She also serves as an Adjunct Instructor for the University of Pittsburgh School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences where she teaches a course in Current Issues in Health Care and is a frequent lecturer on issues related to disability studies. Lucy is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Science and Disorders and a Master’s Degree in Social Work. She also received a Play Specialist Certificate from the Pittsburgh Psychoanalytic Center. She is the recipient of the 1995 UCP of Pennsylvania Citizen of the Year Award and the 1994 Ruth and George Brenyo Achievement Award from the Three Rivers Center for Independent Living.

Lucy enjoys gardening, theatre, and spending time with her children and their families, including two grandchildren.
